| Halaal and Kosher Safaris - Keeping Kosher or Halaal on a Safari can be easy |
Can one visit South Africa and be served delicious Halaal and Kosher food? Absolutely. The trick is in who you book through.
Kosher Safaris No Safari Lodge in South Africa will have a Kosher cooking kitchen, cutlery or crockery. However, all the lodges can organise kosher meals. All the safari lodges can have kosher meals brought in along with cutlery and crockery, supervised by kosher companies under the supervision of a Mashgiach to ensure that all your meals will meet Kashrut requirements. The the variety of Kosher products and restaurants in South Africa have improved greatly over the past 10 years and the quality of food is top notch.
Ultimate Holiday Planner is one of the few Travel companies that regularly organise Kosher food with all packages and tailor-made trips upon request.Kosher food from all 3 Kashrut institutions, Chalav Yisrael, Beth Din or Mehadrin may be organised for you. More information on them is available on their websites.
Halaal Safaris Halaal Safaris follows much the same process as organising Kosher Safaris. In South Africa, virtually all the chicken one finds is Halaal, however, many of the kitchens in most Game Lodges do not carry certificates authenticating that their food is Halaal. We suggest that the best way to get around this would be to let your agent organise Halaal meals specific to your Safari, pre-prepared for you. Or stick to the vegetarian options. There is one fully Islamic friendly Game Reserve in South Africa, and that is Kwantu in the Eastern Cape, an hour drive from Port Elizabeth. The blessing of this reserve is that it is surrounded by many reserves including the world famous Shamwari. Now Kwantu is a lovely Safari Park however it is smaller than the rest and not one of the top ones. We would suggest staying at Kwantu Game Lodge and not only viewing their wildlife but also viewing that of the surrounding parks with a tailor-made safari package.
We have many Muslim and Jewish clients who request Halaal or Kosher Safaris. Please contact us should you require any assistance in this regard and one of specialised travel co-ordinators will help you with all your requirements.
