Wildlife Safaris in South Africa: The Eastern Cape
One of the main attractions of the Eastern Cape is to view the Big 5 on a South African Wildlife safari in a malaria-free environment. Eastern Cape is a great province to have a safari and Beach holiday in South Africa.

It is also prefectly situated if you're combining a Cape Town Holiday or a Garden Route tour on your South African travels.

So, what makes the Eastern Cape a special safari destination: Those gentle giants, the African Elephant!

POPULAR GAME RESERVES:

Addo Elephant National Park
The most popular game reserve in the Eastern Cape, where you can view over 350 of these majestic giants up close. In the evenings you’ll hear the howl of the black-backed jackal, with francolins waking you at dawn. Addo Elephant National Park is home to not only elephants, but also Cape buffalo, black rhino, a variety of antelope species, and unique flightless dung beetle, indigenous to Addo.

Mountain Zebra National Park
Another Popular Park in this province is the with it’s rolling plains and deep valleys, home to the Cape mountain zebra with a current population of 350.Also grazing the park are eland, red hartebeest, black wildebeest and gemsbok.

Shamwari Game Reserve
The Southernmost, Big Game, private malaria-free reserve in Africa. Shamwari stretches along the Bushman's river, midway between Port Elizabeth and Grahamstown, forming a natural extension to the Garden Route. Covering 25 000 hectaresd Shamwari prides itself in conserving a vanishing way of life, and is a winner of a number of International award s in tourism and conservation.

Pumba Game Reserve
Set in a remarkable setting amongst five of the world’s seven biomes, Pumba Private Game Reserve has a lot to offer. Not only is it set in a malaria-free part of the Eastern Cape, it also provides easy access to big 5 game viewing, just outside historical Grahamstown, a mere 105 km from Port Elizabeth.

Spanning 6 000 hectares, the reserve hosts a variety of game including giraffe, zebra, hippo, cheetah, warthog, hyena and wild dog. The reserve also allows you the opportunity to view the sometimes forgotten smaller wildlife including the scrub hare, ant-bear, Cape fox and aardwolf, as well as a selection of antelope. Roaming white lions are also a major draw-card of Pumba.
