South African 2010 World cup stadiums and fixtures
When hosting an event as prestigious as the FIFA world cup, one of the first thing that needs to be addressed is stadium readiness. Indeed, there is no other global sporting more prestigious or watched than the Football World cup , which has people around the world glued to television screen  and filling up stadiums every four years. June 2010 is around the corner, and how are South Africa’s stadiums shaping up?

A major focus of infrastructure development is, of course, the building or improving of theses match venues and their environment. The hosting of the World Cup will leave a legacy of sports and recreation facilities in South Africa, in the form of 10 state-of-the-art stadiums and the development of other recreational facilities.

The hosting of the 2010 World Cup is seeing to the implementation of sports facilities in communities that have not had such facilities before, making it a key benefit of hosting this event.

In addition to the World Cup match sites, cities and provinces have invested in upgrading and development of other sports venues, some which will be used as training venues. Five of South Africa's football stadiums have undergone major renovations for 2010: Soccer City and Ellis Park in Johannesburg, Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria, the Royal Bafokeng stadium in Rustenburg in North West Province and Vodacom Park in Bloemfontein in the Free State.

New stadiums are being built at Mbombela in Mpumalanga and in the Nelson Mandela Metro in the Eastern Cape. Peter Mokaba stadium in Polokwane inLimpopo is being rebuilt, as well as King Senzangakhona Stadium in Durban and Cape Town's Green Point stadium. Kings Park and Green Point are to be completely new multi-sport facilities, Green Point complete with a retractable dome to counter Cape's unpredictable weather.
