Tips to Find Good Inexpensive Safaris
For many, travelling to Africa for a Safari is an expensive experience. Which is a great pity. Finding an inexpensive Safari without sacrificing the quality of wildlife one can see is easy but only if you know what to look out for.

Before hunting down the best deal, one needs to know the major differences between what most cheap safari's offer compared to expensive safari offerings.

Cheap Safaris:
Safari or Game Drives commonly take place with large groups in truck / lorry sized game ranging vehicles.

Most Safari reserves are private, however, if it's not, this means the game rangers cannot deviate from the roads to get closer if you make a good sighting.

The size of the Safari park is small, or under 10 000 hectares. This means that there probably aren't many predators such as Lions, Cheetahs, Wild Dogs and Leopards. Bigger is better as predators need a lot of land otherwise all the other animals can be eaten up quickly as the predators compete for a tasty meal. Smaller parks may keep the predators fenced off seperately from the other animals so that they can have more of them yet still afford to keep them.

Your accommodation is either a backpacker or a 3 or 4 star lodge, guest house, bed and breakfast or luxury tent.

In most cases only some of your meals are included.

Inexpensive Safaris normally take you on 2 or 3 game drives in total, each lasting 3 hours max.

Expensive Safaris:

Include domestic flights close to the private parks and transfers to private lodges

Accommodation is 5 star and often includes luxury rooms with private pools, decks and spa's. All these lodges have incredible service and have exceptional facilities.

There game reserves are big. Very big, larger than 25 000 hectares usually

All meals are included and your food is prepared by top chefs.

You have 2 or 3 game drives per day.

There are often a variety of activities to do should you not wish to go on a game drive. These activities include wildlife walks, spa treatments and more.

Your tour groups are small and the drives are more personalised.

We suggest the best way to make experience a very good and inexpensive safari is to go to a few safari parks. It is very expensive to stay a few days on a top game lodge, however , most of them offer day game trips.

So here's what we suggest you do.

1. Find good accommodation close by to a few game reserves which are close to each other (30min drive apart).
2. Organise transfers to various Game Lodges, big and small.
3. Find the best Game Drives and times.
4. Organise shuttles or hire a car.
5. Ask us to organise a trip for you.
